Driving Smart Meter Growth while Britain Laggs behind - The market for
smart meters in Europe although nascent is expected to be more of a
'push' market. It is primarily driven by legislations and by the need to
handle the increasing demand for electricity that has far exceeded the
grid's capacity. Most of the utilities have been forced to improve their
measurement and monitoring network structure. And the most proactive of
them all is the Italian Electricity Company Enel Spa with around 33
million meters installed till date.

New PXI Express
switches increase test system flexibility - National Instruments
has announced six new switch modules featuring options for high-density
matrices, multiplexers, general-purpose relays and RF applications. Their PXIe-2527, PXIe-2529, PXIe-2532, PXIe-2569, PXIe-2575 and PXIe-2593
switches, also available in PXI versions, can be placed in closer
proximity to PXI Express instruments for improved system cabling and
connectivity, which increases test system flexibility. In particular,
high-throughput applications such as high-speed data streaming and RF
record and playback, which benefit from the 1 GB/s dedicated per-slot
bandwidth from PXI Express, can gain improved connectivity from these
new switch modules.
