    Sensors, Measurement, & Instrument Exhibition
      Associated shows:
      Machine Building
      Contamination Control and Cleanroom Products
      IPOT & Machine Vision
      Practical Vacuum
    NEC, Birmingham, England.
    14th - 15th February 2001

Chris Rand, Editor of EngineeringTalk, writes: "For our readers ....., a quick plug for a new exhibition which takes place at the NEC Birmingham next Wednesday and Thursday (14 and 15 February). Initiated by my former colleagues at Industrial Technology magazine, the Machine Building and Automation exhibition looks like being one of those compact, practical exhibitions where you can really get some work done rather than gazing in awe at people having lunch on top of giant stands. It runs alongside six other sensibly-sized engineering exhibitions, including Mtec (Sensors) and Machine Vision."

The associated conference focusses on two major topics: Gas and Chemical Sensors (Day 1) and Physical Sensors (Day 2). Each day is split into a number of sessions which allow delegates to attend the exhibition.
Registration details are at mtec-info.co.uk.

  • RDP Electronics
Transducer manufacturer RDP Electronicssare showing a wide range of their products atthe show including examples of recent developments in displacement transducer for harsh environments, field bus compatible digital transducers, and the growing range of three-dimensional bend sensors. Well respected for their LVDT products, RDP is also very successful in signal conditioning. MTS magnetostrictive position sensing, and the new Sensotec module pressure transducer range which offers fast response customisation will also be on display.

  • Cognex,
a world leader in machine vision systems, launched a range of Ethernet linked machine vision sensors. The In-Sight 1000 and In-Sight 3000 are general-purpose vision sensors that require no programming, and are designed to handle a wide range of vision tasks including part location, measurement, identification, and assembly verification. Both are equipped with a pre-installed library of proven Cognex vision tools, and a unique vision spreadsheet for fast, easy application set up. Built in Ethernet networking provides improved access to real-time vision data, streamlined system integration, and the ability to remotely manage, monitor and control vision activity.

  • Ellison Sensors International Ltd
showed their new range of Silicon-on-Saphire pressure transducers with digital signal processing offering outstanding performance. They also displayed the new range of TSM strain gauges and load cells and the Sigtel range of radio telemetry.

  • Lee-Dickens Ltd
featured equipment from their complete range including sensors - pressure, temperature, flow, RH and load cells; signal conditioning equipment - isolating signal converters, trip amplifiers and the new strain gauge amplifier, as well as a comprehensive range of digital process indicators, telemetry and SCADA products.

  • Star Instruments Ltd,
manufacturers of pressure gauges and dial thermometers also exhibited a range of dry block temperature calibrators for ranges -30 to +1300 deg C and portable flow and pressure calibrators.

  • Bruel & Kjaer
showed the latest developments in piezoelectric and silicon accelerometers, including versions using TEDS (transducer electronic data sheet) microphones and sound level meters.

  • Sensorland.com is a unique site which allows visitors to obtain free technical catalogues and brochures from sensor manufacturers. There is much more on this site which is worth a visit.

  • National Instruments
manufactures software and hardware products for PCs and workstations that scientists and engineers use to build virtual instrumentation systems for the test and measurement, and industrial automation industries.

  • Ixthus Instrumentation Ltd
showed high precision inductive and capacitance displacement transducers and measuring systems as well as ultrasonic sensors for distance, level & depth, and ranging measurements.
  • Michel Instruments
Michell Instruments will be presenting the latest products for the measurement and control of dewpoint and humidity, along with a versatile, accurate and reliable self-contained humidity calibration system that is suitable for the calibration of a wide range of humidity sensors.

  • ABCon
Allen Bennett Controls will feature the DVT Series 630 SmartImage sensor at the associated Machine Building and Automation Exhibition. ABCON has recently been appointed an Automation Solution Provider for the DVT range of low cost vision systems. The camera provides users with an impressive array of software and hardware features that, up until now, have only been available on the high cost vision systems. ABCON provides free introductory workshops and training seminars and visitors to the exhibition will be able to sign up to attend the sessions at the ABCON stand.

  • Barksdale Control Products
This German manufacturer has recently set up a division in the UK to cover the British and Irish markets. They introduced the new UDS 7 switch 2000 range of electronic pressure & temperature switches as well as the existing range of pressure, level, flow and temperature products.

  • Schaevitz Sensors
launched a new range of microfused silicon transducers. Developed in the US by parent company, Measurement Specialties (MSI), the competitively priced Microfused range includes six isolated pressure transducers all featuring one-piece stainless steel construction.

    Penny & Giles Controls
showed the brand new SLS13O sealed linear sensor on Stand D5 at MTEC 2001. The SLSI3O, which features an extended stroke range from 25mm to 200mm and a choice of sealing to IP5O or 1P66, is available for around 80% of the cost of the popular HLPI29 range that it replaces. A compact shaft option is available to provide a bearing centre distance that is 25mm shorter. Also the new 'Designer Friendly' SLS320, which extends the stroke lengths of this new generation of Sealed Linear Sensors to 1100mm. Both the new units are claimed to be a match for any competitive potentiometer product in the world.

  • Omega Engineering Ltd
the world famous manufacturer and distributor of instrumentation for process measurement and control for both scientific and industrial applications were on hand to guide visitors through their extensive range.

  • HBM
the measurement and instrument specialist focussed on experimental stress analysis at this years show. They showed a full range suitable for aerospace, civil engineering and industrial applications.
    • Plans are already underway for the 2002 show so don't forget to mark your diary 13th and 14th February 2002 in Birmingham, England.
