  • World launch
Baldor launched an all-in-one motion automation solution offering control for three servo and four stepper motor axes, together with onboard I/O and fieldbus connectivity. Packaged in a ready to use panel-mounting box, the rugged module can provide an economic standalone solution for many machine building applications, or a motion control sub-system for use in conjunction with a PC host - by employing the controller's USB interface.

  • Eurocard format
Following recent rationalisation among other suppliers of stepper drives in Europe, SmartDrive's DM Series is now the only microstepping drive from a major manufacturer available in the Eurocard format.

  • New high durability rotary sensor
Penny & Giles Controls new family of rugged sealed rotary sensors for motorsports and harsh industrial applications is on display on stand A224 in Hall 9 at the Drives & Controls Exhibition. Designed for high reliability in extreme temperature, high vibration and shock environments, the new Control Plus series offers a range of innovative features which overcome the shortcomings of competitive products and set a new standard of reliability for the industry.

  • Monitoring at your fingertips
MMI Solutions showed a representative selection from its comprehensive range of control and monitoring products at the show. Amongst the products shown were the Hako Monitouch V7 touchscreen operator interface, the latest ESA HMI and the AAEON industrial PC.

  • New range of drives
Shown for the first time was a new range of Eurotherm drives specifically designed for ultra-high performance phase and registration control applications including Shaftiess Printing. The ability to independently drive sections of a machine without a common lineshaft offers great advantages in terms of accuracy, set-up time, wastage and maintenance. By employing non-proprietary standard Firewire (IEEE 1394) technology, the drives can communicate up to 40 times faster than other shaftless systems on the market. Positional accuracy of 4 million parts per revolution is achieved using Sin-Cos Encoders and 32 bit DSPs.

  • High-Speed Serial Interface for Encoders
First time in Britain - EnDat 2.2; the latest version of the Heidenhain high-speed serial interface for encoders was supported by a free CD-ROM containing a product presentation and brochures for both rotary and linear encoders.
  • One drive for all applications!
WEG's new CFW-09 inverter, launched at the show, is essentially one drive for all applications integrating selectable, VIF, Sensorless Vector, Closed Loop Vector and fieldbus operation in a single product. The CFW-09 offers high performance across the power range from 1.5kW to 700kW, courtesy of its powerful 32-bit RISC microprocessor. The level of control provided by this unit ensures the fastest dynamic response and absolute control of speed and torque in the most demanding of applications such as windinglrewinding, mixing, dosing and forming.

  • Brushless flat motors
PML Flightlink announced the world's first truly brushless 'pancake' flat motors, along with a new Intelligent servo drive and revolutionary new electric vehicle wheel motor range.

  • Advanced digital functionality
Control and design engineers now can perform high-speed counting, pulse width modulation control and pulse train generation in harsh environments using four new advanced digital Compact FieldPoint modules from National Instruments.

  • Diagnostics a doodle!
With the new DiagNet diagnostic system from Phoenix Contact, downtime on industrial installations resulting from faults and failures can be dramatically reduced, providing big cost savings, and ensuring maximum productivity from costly plant. Capitalising on the unique properties of the Interbus fieldbus system, DiagNet not only detects faults instantly, but also provides detailed information about the probable cause, and the actions which are needed to remedy the situation. The system is highly intuitive in operation, allowing it to be used, for example, by machine operators as well as by maintenance staff.

  • Rapid reaction stock!
Pittman Europe launched their new rapid reaction stock product programme - PittmanExpress Stand 0120). The programme offers ex-stock delivery of more than 100, metric brushed DC and NEMA brushless DC motors from I to 350 mNm and including geared motor and encoder options. Represented Pittman motor products include LO-COG, ELCOM SL and ELCOMeST product families.
