Situated on the western end of Galway Bay and visible from the Read-out offices are the Aran Islands.

The most spectacular national monument on the islands is Dún Aonghus (The Fort of Aonghus) on the westernmost cliffs of Inis Mór the largest of the three inhabited islands.

The islands are surprisingly easy to get to with a regular air service from the Connacht Regional Airport at Indreabhán (about 2 Km from Read-out) or by ferry from the local fishing port of Ros a'Mhíl.
