    NEWS - NUACHT - NACHRICHTEN
    Statement from INTERKAMA
Duesseldorf, 20th September 2001: INTERKAMA's board, as representative of the participating industries, is deeply shaken by last week's tragic events in the United States. It wishes to express its heartfelt sympathy for the victims and their loved ones. Dr. Uwe Martens, INTERKAMA 2001's president, states: "Despite the horrific events in the USA, our American friends have now the expectation that all business activities will return to normal - even more safe than before. I call upon everyone involved to lend their support and make INTERKAMA a succcess."

    Automation Alley
Undeterred by the apalling events of earlier in the month, thirteen companies travelled to Europe from Automation Alley, a consortium of over 350 progressive technology organisations in southeast Michigan. Brooks Patterson, the local government executive whose initiative this development is, travelled over with the group and his comment "Automation Alley loves Interkama!" was warmly received and indeed reciprocated by his hosts. And amidst all this good will buisness was done.

    Game set in Ireland!
As part of their promotional work for Interkama a second group of engineers traveled to Ireland in July. Dr Uwe Martens, President of Interkama 2001, gave an interesting talk on the evolution of automation. Afterwards Mr Declan Lordan, District VP of ISA District 12 which covers Europe, presented him with two hurleys (sticks) and sliotars (balls) which are the instruments used in the nation Irish game of Hurling. Picture shows Mr Lordan (left), Dr Martens and Mr Armin Stader, Project Director of Interkama 2001. More details of this trip.

    Virtual INTERKAMA!
In the future, www.INTERKAMA.com will supplement the "real" INTERKAMA. Anytime, anywhere, users, suppliers and scientific experts in automation technology can be in contact with one another. At its heart is the INTERKAMA scope ‹ a list of complete solutions, services, systems and products. Of course, this scope will be broken down into more detailed areas to help visitors find the precise group of exhibits they are looking for. Within each group of exhibits is a list of manufacturers for a particular product or system, including the manufacturers' information and a short description of what they offer. If visitors require more information, they can contact the manufacturer via e-mail or click on a link leading directly to the manufacturer's home page.
But the site offers much more than that: It will feature "display windows" for exhibitors to announce innovations or to advertise. Apart from automation technology news items, there will be a user discussion forum on relevant industry issues alongside advertisements for job and cooperation opportunities. And last but not least, INTERKAMA.com will provide support to exhibitors and visitors participating in tte real INTERKAMA. They can plan their visit including travel, hotel reservations, etc. and even purchase admission tickets online.

42,000 visitors from 66 nations came to Duesseldorf over the five-day run

    New era for INTERKAMA!
In a recent press conference in Ireland in June, Frank Hartmann, a director of Messe Duesseldorf, pointed out tha no other trade fair can claim to be the leading event in this sector. 1253 companies from 37 nations showed their wares and solutions to almost 57000 visitors from 98 countries of which a hefty 31% were from outside the home country.
They have made some changes which recognises the changes in the market place. The speed of technological change including the importance of the impact of the communications revelotion and the ability to handle more and more bits of information lead to a broadening of the target to include production, manufacturing and business processes, while mantaining their basic traditional and key devices and components showcase.
