A busy start to 2011...Ireland saw some remarkable changes during the first three months of 2011 which will take some time to digest. This issue of Read-out also reported a busy start to the year with brief reports from three events in Ireland itself and one in North America.
The first event reported was the Technical Symposium organised by National Instruments. This was a one-day professional development series for engineers and scientists and was held in Dublin. It was hosted by their man in Ireland Séamus Casserley.
The front page also highlights the celebration by Hanley Automation, one of Ireland's best known automation companies of twenty five years association with Rockwell's Allen Bradley.
The Inside Front article discussed the Stuxnet malware, how it spreads and best practices taken from the paper by Eric Byres, Andrew Gintner and Joel Langill which we highlighted earlier in the blog, "How Stuxnet spreads!"
The area particularly highlighted was security and there was a brief critique on Industrial Network Security, a book by David Teumim published by ISA. Products in this area discussed included the Pilz PSENini proximity switch. There was also an article on how safety regulations are driving growth in the European process safety market based on a report from Frost & Sullivan. Other products covered included Flukes EX STIK thermometers, "tougher and safer than mercury teermometers!" The Grant Instrument range of Squirrel data loggers available through Eurolec Instruments; Beamex Temperature blocks marketed by Howard Instrumentation; the new Michell IS Promet moisture analysers from Industrial Technology Ltd; Airy Technology's laser particle counter from P J Boner & Co; Blue-White's Chem-Feed skid systems, and the Valueline from Phoenix Contact. There was a report on the setting of Wolf Process Automation, a new company which offers a complete supply and service in automation products based in Co Kildare. Irish products included Aabspec's new GC/FTIR high interface. There were also two launches from AGC Instruments of Shannon. These were their MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) analysers and a newly designed total hydrocarbon analyser. The next issue will include items on Water, Waste and Air Quality and articles and copy for this issue should be submitted by mid February. It is possible to advertise both in Read-out, Ireland's journal of instrumentation, control and automation, which circulates to approx 2500 named automation professionals throughout Ireland, and on the Read-out Instrumentation Signpost, which is visited by up to 6000 visitors per week. Rates (in Euro, Pounds Sterling or US Dollars) Read-out is generally distributed free of charge within Ireland but due to high distribution charges outside we regret a small charge is made for subscriptions in other countries. Subscriptions may be made using Paypal here. Our facebook "fan-page" lists most stories we receive even those not included in our printed publication. Who reads Read-out? [] Advertising Rates |
