Keeping level amidst the worm threat...The September October issue of Read-out is nothing if not topical in it's lead story which is on the ever-expanding story of the Stuxnet worm. Since the first notification arrived in the Read-out mail-box in mid July the story has grown from being one spoken of only in the automation journals, to the computer media and now into the main-stream press (including a suggestion that it was all caused by aliens!!!). The slant we have taken is that it is the first real attack on instrument control systems. Since writting this we have in fact learnt quite a bit more about its properties and foibles. (see our blog: Stuxnet - not from a bored schoolboy prankster!)Level was the issue that we suggested as a topic to concentrate on in this issue and we were lucky enough to get a study on best practices in radar level measurement from Sarah Parker, who is Applications Manager with the Rosemount Division of Emerson Process Management.
Level products featured include Magnatrol's Eclipse GWR used to measure level "around corners!" These units are marketed here by Ntron.
Of course level measuring products are not the only instruments or systems featured in this issue. Madgetech's little EggTemp designed to thermally respond to temperature effects the same way as an egg does looks like a real winner to live up to what it is cracked-up to be!
Company news includes news of stockist Automation-Stock.com who can deliver from a large stock of automation parts and equipment from the main manufacturers, Siemens, Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi etc etc.
This issue also features items on training, events, including ISA's Automation Week, and people in the news. The next issue for October/November will highlight Pressure measurements, gauges, meters, controllers, transmitters, switches etc etc. It will also have reports on the events of the end of September and beginning of October, Emerson's User Group Meeting and ISA Automation Week. The recently opened facebook "fan-page" lists most stories we receive even those not included in our printed publication. Who reads Read-out? [] Advertising Rates |
