One of the most important measurements in process, and indeed other industries is that of flow. The June/July issue of Read-out headlines the work of the Wavebob out in Galway Bay in harnessing wave power as in tidal flow, to generate electricity. They hope to develop a commercial WEC (wave energy converter) that can produce significant electrical power for the onshore grid on coastlines with a suitable wave climate.

The issue highlighted flow instruments and including instruments from Manotherm, Yokogawa's ADMAG, Servomx's Flowcube, E+H's ProMass and DWN's Krohne VA meters and how they should be mounted. There is also news of Emerson's new European flow centre's certification to ISO 17025.

Siemens' SIMATIC S7-1200 Interplay Tour visited Ireland in mid June and was hosted by Douglas Control & Automation in Cork.

The InsideFront article examined Chemical Seals - Protection for Measuring Instruments under Severe Conditions, an examination of the offering of Baumer in this field.

Company news included the celebration of 25 years representing Krohne by DWN. There is also an item on the sale of the ESI group to the German company SUCO Robert Scheuffele GmbH & Co KG. Byres Security remarkable achievement in winning the Frost & Sullivan Award for Customer Value Enhancement for its Tofino product.

There are reports on the new Southern Energy & Facilities Management Show scheduled for October; a report on the unique Networking Evening held by the local section of the International Society of Automation (ISA) in June. There was also news of the training course on hazardous areas given by Douglas Control & Automation.

The sponsorship of the ISA Marketing & Sales Summit by the Read-out Instrumentation Signpost is reported. This event scheduled for 1st to 3rd September 2010 is to be held in Atlanta (GA US). It is the first time that Read-out has sponsored an event outside of Ireland.

There are short items about books on flow measurement and some of the papers that have been published on our blogsite.

As is usual there are reports on people and events of interest to Irish people involved in the automation industry.

The next issue of Read-out (August/September) is to highlight level measurement and items for possible inclusion will be welcome. Information for advertisers is found on our website.

The recently opened facebook "fan-page" lists most stories we receive even those not included in our printed publication.
