    • "Merger heralds further consolidation in the automation industry" says analyst - The recent merger of Honeywell and AlliedSignal, which will create a manufacturing conglomerate with revenues of $25 billion, flies in the face of current corporate fashion towards concentrating on core business.
According to market analyst Datamonitor, this is because it is primarily a stock market driven consolidation. The new company - which will be known as Honeywell - will be chasing the likes of GE and Tyco International for stock market performance, which have outstripped both Honeywell and AlliedSignal's individual performance in recent years. The growing League of $20 billion+ companies with an automation interest means further acquisition of the smaller automation competitors is likely.
Though the merger will not have a direct impact on the automation industry for a number of years, according to Datamonitor, it will herald further consolidation in the automation industry in the future.
