"A lifetime fluorescence protein analyser!" - Horiba Jobin Yvon, leader in fluorescence spectroscopy, now offers the Protein 280 ex, a lifetime spectrofluorometer that can measure three fluorescence lifetimes in just a few minutes. Ideal for those biologists and biochemists who need to test multiple protein samples fast, this unit uses Time-Correlated Single-Photon Counting, a time-resolved fluorescence technique, to record accurate, reproducible lifetime data. Analytical software then calculates lifetimes based on least-squares fitting algorithms. The system uses the modular Fluorocube, with a pulsed 280 nm UV NanoLED source. NanoLEDs are miniature turn-key light-sources that generate short optical pulses from greater than 100 ps to 1 ns. The 280 nm LED matches the absorption maxima of the naturally fluorescent amino acids tryptophan and tyrosine. Thus, it is well-suited for examining biomarkers and studying the dynamics of protein folding. Tryptophan fluorescence is widely used as a probe of protein structure and dynamics.
