Do you use the News Groups? -

We sometimes forget this useful forum available free on the net. Recently a query from an instructor in the Industrial Training Authority of Ireland (FÁS) attracted over 100 responses on the sci.engr.control news group. The subject was a crushing machine for cans and the final response from the instructor as follows "Many thanks to all who contributed on this topic and what an amount of replies. We read every single one (nearly one hundred) and weighed (no pun intended!) up all the replies.
Among all the very good ideas was a constant and strong view on using a simple air jet to blow the can to the next location if it is light but otherwise eject the can. This seems so simple and cost effective and so we have now incorporated it into our design.
I have had a team of engineering students design and soon to build the machine."
