Valve Plant opens in Cork

SchuF Valve Technology is an engineering company that manufactures valves for the bottom of pressure vessels and chemical reactors. Later this year they commence manufacturing sampling valves. Their new plant in Cork was opened officially last month. Valves produced at this plant are used not only in Ireland and Europe but all over the world for instance in the United States and Korea. All valves are made to customer order in materials such as hastelloy, titanium and cast steel as well as the more usual stainless steel.

The InsideFront Article is a desertation on the Internet saying what it is and how to go about going on-line.

Details are given of the New Apprenticeship scheme in Ireland as well as of some other training resources.

Product Information

Go West for Control
West Instruments have refined the look of their entire family of 1/8 DIN and 1/16 DIN con-trollers of the course of last year, adding extra features and new versions for VMD and Limit control to provide what they claim is the most compre-hensive and flexible range of microprocessor available. At C&I earlier this year they not only showed these controllers but also for the first time Recorders including Digital Display, 100mm and multi-channel versions and their new 5700, a 250mm Multipoint Hybrid Colour Track recorder. West products have been mar-keted for many years now from Manotherm's Control Centres in Dublin and Belfast. Write 4077 on card.
Flake Out
Effluent from Cadbury's Kerry plant is being monitored for suspended solids by the Partech Turbi-Tech 20i sensor. This contains a high proportion of fatty tissue but a self clean and auto-calibration system, provided with the sensor, minimises maintenance. Partech is marketed in Ireland by Mytec. Improved Safety
Chris Kennedy of Hanley Controls tells us of the release of a new range of Intrinsically-Safe Isolating Interface Units from MTL known as the MTL5000 Series. The cost and time involved in installation and maintenance has been significantly reduced by the introduction of many important features. With a module width of 16mm this slim profile coupled with dual channel analogue and digital modules enable users to make the most effective use of cabinet space. Removable, plug-in signal and separate power connectors, optional DC power bussing and DIN-rail mounting ensure that installation and maintenance procedures are as quick and as frustration free as possible. The MTL5000 has been designed with full compliance with all the EMC regulations to improve both the safety and the efficiency of the users process. Write 4079 on card
Fairchild at Biggest Show on Earth.
The Fairchild T7800 I/P-E/P transducers employ a reliable, burned in solid state control circuit. Internal piezoelectric feedback assures precise control of the output pressure and eliminates effects of supply pressure variations, vibration or positioning of the unit. This unit, which will be displayed on their stand at INTERKAMA, the worlds biggest Instrument Show, takes a standard 4 -20mA, 1-5V or 0-10V dc, providing a standard 3-15psi , 3-27psi or 6-30psi pneumatic outputs (0.2-1, 0.2-1.8, 1.4-2Bar). An extremely small explosion proof unit, and an extended range model provid-ing units up to 8.0Bar will be introduced.
The unitŐs compact size allows use in restricted space, and a standard NEMA-4X (IP65) housing allows use in extreme environmental conditions. Installation modes include multi-unit manifold and rack mounting. Fairchild is represented in here by Pneumatics Ltd. Write 4080 on card.

Defeat the Enemy
"Is namhaid í an chéird gan í a fhoghlaim", appears on some literature from CIM-TRACS, the training arm of the GCAL group. And of course it is self evident that an unlearned tech-nology is your enemy. They are advocating a training audit as a means of deciding the skill base of your company and to deter-mine how best to improve this by establishing a training pro-gramme to enable the company to progress to its full potential. The audit format includes a pilot scheme on selected staff members to give a good ind-ication of the spread and depth of the over-all requirement. Then further decisions may be taken as to how best to proceed to achieve the ends required. Write 4087 on card.
Temperature Seminar
Temperature is one of the most important process variables. Accurate temperature for example, is central to the efficient running of processes in the food and pharmaceutical sectors. Despite its importance however, significant errors can easily occur in temperature measurement either by misunderstanding or misapplication of the techniques involved. Forbairt are organising a semi-nar to focus on the practical aspects of temperature measurement and the calibration of measuring instruments. The venue for this, by now annual, seminar, is in Jurys Hotel in Cork on 17th October 1995. Write 4091 on card.

Another Battle?
In what promises to be a very busy Autumn for Instrument People with ISA's Fiftieth Anniversary Bash in New Orleans, INTERKAMA's triennial show in Dusseldorf and in Ireland, IRCHEM'95 and Forbairt's Temperature Seminar and Exhibition (both in Cork) a most timely Conference and Exhibition is being held in Hinckley, Leicestershire on 7th November. This will be the world's first show and conference dedicated to industrial networking, fieldbus technologies and 'smart' instrumentation. Styled "FieldComms'95", it is aimed at system designers, inte-grators, installers, users, mana-gers and maintainers in all fields of industrial control related to manufacturing, processing, build-ing and operations automation. It is designed to meet the growing need for comprehensive, easily assimilated information about the leading technologies. Speakers have been gathered from many sources and for novices there will be a series of 20 minute tutorials running alongside the main conference to explain each of the key standards - from ASI to WorldFIP - simply and clearly. Most fieldbus user groupps have taken stands in the associated exhibition including ASI, CAN, DeviceNet, Intebus-S, LonWorks, PROFIBUS, P-Net,SDS and WorldFIP. It looks like a fascinating few days well worth taking time out to visit and learn. Write to organisers directly. (Don't forget to say where you saw this!)
