John began playing the horn aged ten under the direction of Pádraig Diggan, while a member of the rathfarnham (Dublin) Concert bannd. During this time he woin every major brass prize at Feis Cheoil (Music Festival) and appeared live on the worlds longest talk show, "The Late Late Show".
He has been a member of the DYO - Dublin Youth Orchestra, the national Youth Orchestra and has recorded recitles for RTÉ Radio.
In 1998 he performed with the NSO, as the winner of the brass catagory, in the final of the RTÉ Young Musician of the Future Competition.
As soloist John has played in Ireland, the UK and abroad and has performed with the RTÉ Concert Orchastra in the very popular CD "Four by Four" sponsored by Lyric FM.
John graduated with honours in 2001 from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama where he studied with Jeffrey Bryant and Richard Bissill.
He has a keen interest in Chamber Music and has performed at the West Cork Music Festival. He plays regularly with Camerata Ireland and London Winds.
As an orchestral musician he has worked with many distinguished professional orchestras including NSIO, CBSO, BBC Wales and the LPO.
He is co-principal horn of the 
London Symphony Orchestra with whom he appears on the Star Wars and Harry Potter soundtracks.
