The IEV online offers free of charge a valuable tool to anyone whose work requires an understanding of electrotechnical terms in an international environment. • International Electrotechnical Commission.
  They publish new standards, specifications and publications in Just Published which is delivered twice a month straight to your desktop. They now have a very useful IEC Webstore where you may purchase standards and related publications.

• The International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) is headquartered in France.

• CENELEC is the Standards Body of the European Union. See also the European Commision page on measuring instruments

• Physical data from the US National Institute of Standards (NIST), including fundamental constants, is now available on their World Wide Web pages.

• There is more information available from The American National Standards Institute (ANSI). They host the National Standard System Network which lists up to 100,000 global standards abstracts.

• Another important source of standards is The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.

• Need to keep a close tab on ISO activities? ISO on-line has recently been launched and you can tap it on internet via World Wide Web. They also include a list of Standardisation Bodies which is very useful. All material is in English or French. Included is a full catalogue of ISO standards and drafts, Meetings Calendar of the ISO Committee, Forum Service and details on how to get your hands on the actual standards themselves.

• These WWW pages contain information about MiTS: The Maritime Information Technology Standard. It is an open communication standard originally developed for integrated ship control systems. Today it has also successfully been used in land-based applications.

• SERCOS is the only internationally approved open standard for motion control communications. This site is in North America.

• IHS offers a broad base of engineering data from research and design to manufacturing and repair. They have over 800,ooo new and historic standards, specs., and codes in their famous standards shop!
• National Standards System Network (NSSN) is a system designed to provide a wide range of standards information from major international standards developers. At time of setting up this link it points to more than 60,000 standards. The project started with the awarding of funds from the US Government in late 1993 under their Technology Reinvestment Project to create an electronic infrastructure to link to databases of standards developers etc.

• The FDA and CFSAN (The US Food and Drug Administration and the Centre for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition) describes functions and provides contacts for the validation of systems among many other topics.
• The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is an independent regulatory agency within the US Department of Energy. They have become innovative in the examination and insistance in standards for cyber security in the aftermath of the increased awareness of the vulnarability of important utilities, water, electricity etc to systematic or planned attack or indeed accidental damage through the abuse of the freedoms of internet.
• The Safety Link would appear to be the web's most comprehensive collection of product safety and standards links.
• If you want to learn about LCDs you could do worse than go to LCD Monitor Information where there is lots of information on this method of viewing information. This is not really a standards site but the information is useful.
• Though not specifically a standards site the Instrumentation and Control Q&A site is a very useful one in getting answers to problems in Instrumentation and Controls.
