    Mat-forming, evergreen, perennial herb; leaves glossy, dark green above, white below, margins indented; flowers solitary on erect, dark reddish stems covered with dark red glandular hairs; petals 8 or more (this character is very variable), pure white; stamens numerous, yellow.
